23 May 2022:- The Communist Party of Swaziland (CPS) calls for the immediate and unconditional release of Sudanese Communist Party (SCP) leader, Comrade Amal Alzain, member of the SCP’s Polit Bureau.
Comrade Amal was detained by Sudanese security forces on Sunday 22 May 2022 as she was returning from a press conference organised by the SCP’s Bureau for Information at the Party’s headquarters.
The arrest of Comrade Amil follows the arrest of Comrade Muhammad Mukhtar Alkhateeb, Political Secretary of the Central Committee, and Comrade Salih Mahmoud, member of the Polit Bureau, who were arbitrarily detained on 19 May 2022 and later released after pressure was mounted on the junta.
The political persecution of the SCP forms part of the increasing repression meted against the entire democratic movement in Sudan, the SCP being the political organisation facing the worst repression from the military junta.
The CPS calls for the immediate and unconditional release of Comrade Amal and all political detainees in Sudan.
The CPS also conveys its solidarity with the SCP and the entire democratic movement of Sudan as they continue the fight for a free, democratic, and sovereign Sudan that is free from political repression.
