Communist Party of Swaziland

13 December 2021

The Communist Party of Swaziland (CPS) will hold its Annual Summer School from 17 to 27 December 2021 under the theme “Turning Up the Heat to Achieve Democracy Now – Communist Youth to the Front”.

The CPS Summer School is an annual Cadreship training school. It trains activists on questions of philosophy, political economy, strategy and tactics, and also takes into consideration the developing questions on the struggles of the people of Swaziland and the world, giving specific tasks for activists for the year ahead.

This year’s Summer School takes place amid a resurgence of demands for democracy which have largely come from the youth under the “Democracy Now” campaign. Their protests have been heavily and bloodily suppressed with well over a hundred people shot dead by the army and police since June this year, along with hundreds heavily injured. Over 700 people are imprisoned without trial.

While various forces have taken the reformist line regarding the way forward, the CPS in its 2021 Red October message called upon the people to unite to turn up the heat to achieve democracy in Swaziland. The objective of this year’s Summer School is thus to train working-class youth, the chief drivers of this year’s uprising, among other working-class strata, to intensify the struggle against the ruling autocracy, bring the country to a standstill to overthrow the autocracy towards a democratic dispensation.
