The Communist Party of Swaziland (CPS) joins the world in commemorating World Teachers’ Day, saluting the courageous and selfless educators of Swaziland for their revolutionary service to our people under the brutal weight of the Tinkhundla dictatorship.
On this important day, the CPS extends its warmest revolutionary greetings to all members of the Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) and to every teacher who continues to educate and inspire despite oppression, intimidation, and worsening working conditions. Teachers are the backbone of our society — the builders of the nation’s future. Their contribution goes far beyond classrooms; they shape minds, nurture critical thinking, and lay the foundation for a just and democratic Swaziland.
The teaching profession in Swaziland is marked by a long history of struggle — a history of courage, sacrifice, and resistance against exploitation. Over the years, educators have faced not only underpayment and overwhelming workloads but also deliberate state neglect of schools, collapsing infrastructure, and a deepening crisis in the education system. For over a decade, the learning environment has deteriorated to alarming levels, threatening the very survival of quality education in our country.
Instead of addressing these challenges, the Mswati regime has chosen to victimise teachers and wage a campaign of union-bashing against SNAT. The royal government’s open defiance of court orders —including the directive to reinstate the SNAT President and pay his dues — demonstrates its contempt for justice and its fear of organised labour. This behaviour exposes the true nature of the Tinkhundla system: anti-worker, anti-education, and anti-people.
The CPS stands shoulder to shoulder with SNAT and all educators in their just struggle for dignity, fair compensation, and respect for workers’ rights. We reaffirm that the liberation of teachers is inseparable from the liberation of the entire working class. The fight for a free, democratic, and socialist Swaziland must continue until every worker, every learner, and every citizen enjoys genuine freedom and equality.
#Long live SNAT! #Long live the struggle of the working class! #Down with union-bashing and victimisation! #Down with the Tinkhundla dictatorship! #Forward to a democratic and socialist Swaziland!
